Onset vs Beamer

Beamer is an in-app announcement widget with a changelog attached, and it prices on your monthly active users. That means the bill tracks how big your product gets, not how much you use the changelog. Onset charges a flat price for the workspace either way.

Their price follows your traffic

Beamer plans are bought in bands of monthly active users: 1,000 on Free, 5,000 on Starter, 10,000 on Pro and 50,000 on Scale. Grow past a band and you move up whether or not anything about your changelog changed. Onset does not count your app’s users at all.

Email starts at $119 and is capped

Beamer sends no changelog email on Free or Starter. Email begins on Pro at $119 a month with a 5,000-a-month cap, rising to 20,000 on Scale at $299. Onset includes 10,000 subscribers on the $30 Team plan with no send cap.

A custom domain needs their $119 plan

Custom domains, custom CSS and the API all begin on Beamer Pro. Their free plan carries a Beamer watermark and has an API limit of zero. Onset ships the custom domain, the widget and the REST API on the free plan.

Figures are for one changelog site. Beamer also picks a plan by your app’s monthly active users, which is not modelled below — see the notes. Onset charges one flat price per workspace regardless of traffic.

How this is calculated

These figures are for one changelog site. Beamer bills per account and Onset per workspace, and both are one public page with one widget.

Beamer also picks a plan by monthly active users — people using your product who could see the widget — in bands of 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 50,000. The calculator does not model that, so if your app has more traffic than the band its plan comes with, your real Beamer bill is higher than the figure shown here. Past 50,000 they quote a custom plan.

Beamer sends no changelog email at all below Pro, so as soon as you have a single subscriber their Free and Starter plans drop out of the comparison. It would be misleading to show $59 against a job that plan cannot do.

Their allowance is a monthly send cap rather than a subscriber count: 5,000 a month on Pro and 20,000 on Scale. The calculator reads one send per subscriber per month, which is why Pro stops being offered above 5,000. Past 20,000 Beamer quotes a custom plan, so Scale is left as the top option here rather than showing no plan at all — their real cost at that size is higher than shown.

Beamer sells Feedback and NPS as $99-a-month add-ons each. Neither is modelled here, and Onset does not offer either.

Prices shown are monthly list. Beamer takes roughly 17% off for annual billing, which works out at $49, $99 and $249.

Both columns show list prices billed monthly. Beamer pricing last checked August 12, 2026.

What counts as a monthly active user on Beamer?

People using your product who could see the Beamer widget, not people who read your changelog. It is a measure of your app’s size, which is why the bill grows as you grow. Onset does not meter your app’s users at all — the price depends on your subscriber count and team size only.

Can Beamer email my changelog to subscribers?

Not on Free or Starter. Email notifications begin on Pro at $119 a month and are capped at 5,000 sends a month, rising to 20,000 on Scale at $299. Onset includes 1,000 subscribers free, 10,000 on the $30 Team plan and unlimited on Business, with no send cap.

Can I move my existing changelog over?

Yes. Onset has an importer for Beamer that brings across your published posts, dates and categories. See the import guide in our documentation, or email support@onset.io and we will run it for you.

Is this pricing current?

Beamer figures come from their public pricing page and are re-checked periodically. Vendors change prices, so treat the calculator as an estimate and confirm on their site before you decide.
